Rince the rice well and soak it for 20 minutes. While the rice is soaking clean the potato and onion and cut them into big cubes.Slit 2 chillies and keep them aside(if you can eat spicy cut the chilly into pieces).Make a paste of the ginger and garlic and keep it aside.

Place the cooking pan on the stove on medium high heat and add the oil and all the seasoning ingredients except garam masala powder and roast them till they are golden brown.

Once the seasoning is ready add the ginger garlic paste and fry for a minute and now add cubed potato and green chillies and fry for 3 minutes.

Now drain the water from the rice and add the soaked rice to the pan of potato and fry the rice till it is golden brown .

Now add the garam masala powder, salt and required amount of water to the rice and stir well .

Now add the onion pieces , cover the pan and let cook.

Once the rice is almost done reduce the heat to medium-low and let it cook.

Once it is done garnish it with cilantro and serve it with the Sesame Chutney---------------Oh ,right I did not give you the recipe of the chutney yet.Well let's see how it is made---------------

                                                                   Sesame Chutney

Place a pan on the stove on medium heat and toast the sesame seeds till they are golden in color.Once they are toasted transfer them to a plate and let them cool down.

Now while the seeds are cooling down let us prepare the seasoning.Place a pan on the stove and add oil to it .Once the oil is hot add the mustard seeds and urad daal .Later add hing and chillies and switch off the stove.

Now transfer the cooled sesame seeds into the mixie jar.Add the tamaring paste and required water ,chillies from the seasoning and grind .(If you are using tamarind juice skip water while grinding the chutney).

Transfer the chutney into a bowl and add the seasoning.Garnish with cilantro.

Finally here we are with the lovely combo of Potato Kichadi and Seasame Chutney. Make this and let me know how you like it.

Note :
------

1)My friend makes this with Basmati Rice.If you use basamati rice adjust the amount of water accordingly.

2)I substituted olive oil for butter.

3)Adjust the chilies in the sesame chutney according to your taste. If the chillies are too hot the chutney might get very spicy.

I am sending this Potato Kichadi with Sesame Chutney to the Combo Event being organised by Pari of Foodelicious.
