Oats and Sooji Dhokla/Oats & Semolina Savory Cake(Heart Healthy)

In my family we all love to eat Dhokla.Sooji dhokla is much more easier to make.So whenever we feel like eating something different one quick food that comes to mind is Sooji Dhokla.Last time when I made it , I tried it differently from the regular recipe I make.Along with semolina I added Oats to make it healthier. As usual this a low-fat dish as I use very less oil in here.

Let's get started with the Oats-Sooji Dhokla--------------------

Main Ingredients :
------------------
Sooji/Semolina......................2cups
Quick/Instant Oats................1cup
Yogurt..................................2cups
Water...................................1cup(as needed)
Grated Ginger.......................2tsp
Cut Green Chillies.................2tsp(small pieces)
Asafoetida/Hing....................1/4tsp
Turmeric...............................1tsp
Ajwain/Carom Seeds............2tsp
Canola Oil............................2tsp
Salt......................................to taste
Eno Fruit Salt........................2tsp

Seasoning Ingredients :
-----------------------
Canola Oil.......................1tbsp
Mustard Seeds................1.5tsp
Sesame Seeds.................2tsp
Asafoetida/Hing...............1/4tsp

Garnish
---------
Cilantro........................1/2bunch

Preparation :
--------------
Take a vessel or glass bowl and pour sooji/semolina in it.Also add a cup of quick oats to the sooji. Now pour the yogurt and mix well with hand so that there ar no lumps.(I used a US standard cup measurement).

Now add ajwain/carom seeds, turmeric, hing, grated ginger, green chilly pieces and salt to the batter and mix well. Now if water is required slowly add little water at a time and make it to idly batter consistency.

Now add 2tsp of oil to the batter and mix well.

Let the batter rest for 20 minutes. While the batter is resting take a pan or pressure cooker fill it with 2 inches of water and bring it  to a boil.

Take the plate in which you are making the dhokla.Cut a piece of parchment paper the size of the plate and place it in the pan and spread little oil on the parchment so that the dhokla comes out clean and your plate is clean too.

Now the water is ready so add the eno fruit salt to the batter and mix well. The batter starts to form bubbles.

Pour it immediately into the plate that you lined up with parchment and tranfer the plates to the pan/pressure cooker with boiling water.

Let it cook covered for 15minutes on medium-high heat(cook it just like we do for idlis). If you are making it in a pressure cooker do not put the whistle.

After 15 minutes switch off the stove and take the plates out and let them cool so that the dhokla comes out easily.

While it is cooling let us prepare the seasoning for the dhokla.Place a pan on medium heat on the stove add oil ,mustard seeds and sesame seeds.Once they splutter add hing and switch off the stove.

Once the dhokla has cooled down take it into into a serving plate and pour the seasoning over the dhokla and garnish with finely chopped cilantro.

Healthy Oats-Semolina Dhokla/Oats-Semolina Savory cake is ready too serve.Enjoy the heart-healthy , simple, quick and easy to make Dhokla.

Note :
------
1) I wanted to make the dhokla in 2 batches but by mistake I added the eno-salt to the entire batter without separating it.So I poured all the batter in the single plate I prepped but you can divide it inot 2 plates and make small sized dhoklas. My dhokla looks like cake:-)

2) You can add chillies while preparing the seasoning for using them as a side dish  but as I already added small pieces in the batter I did not use any in the seasoning.

3) If the yogurt is sour it will be good if your yogurt is not sour add 2tsp lemon juice in your batter.

4) I added instant oats directly as is , I did not powder them.

5) Resting the batter for 20minutes to 30 minutes helps the sooji and oats to soak and ferment well in the yogurt and is good for digestion.

6) Adding little ajwain/carom seeds ,hing and to the batter helps with digestion and also gives nice flavor.

7) Turmeric adds nice color to the dhokla.Green chillies give it a little spice.I like to add grated carrot ,kasoori methi, grated zucchini to the dhokla but as this is the 1st time I made with oats I did not add any vegetables  to savor the original taste.

8) Generally in the preparation of dhokla more oil is used but you can see that I used only 5tsp of oil. It's up to us to make it healthy without spoiling the taste.
